No Future Work Without Fear

Painted not long after Wide Blue, No Future Work Without Fear explores similar territory, but in a portrait-format canvas now oriented toward the vertical. Although we wanted very much to include it in our exhibition, sadly the painting has suffered during its long storage, and is not being offered for sale until it has been comprehensively refurbished.

However, its importance to Kieran’s developing oeuvre is clear, for it confirms and consolidates the artist’s transition from the small and medium sized experimental pieces of the early Here Lies, to the larger works that come along in their wake. It also marks his first successful deployment of the vertical, a format he largely retained until the square paintings came to outnumber them.
